Welcome to Quakers in Yorkshire Junior Holidays 2022 at Barmoor!

Our holidays are short adventure breaks for young people aged between 7 and 12, from the Quakers in Yorkshire area.  They are a chance for young people to meet together, get to know each other and spend time away from their family in a Quaker group.

Where? Barmoor, Hutton le Hole, Kirbymoorside, Near Pickering, YO62 6UE

When? Friday 16th September 6pm to Sunday 18th September 2pm 2022

Who? Children aged 7-12

What does it cost? £50 (£45 for the second young person of your household) for the weekend

What happens on the holiday?

We will go for walks on the local moors and will have the opportunity to visit Hutton Le Hole village for ice cream and possibly even paddling in the stream! There will be the option of visiting the Ryedale folk museum for those interested.  We will spend time through the weekend playing games, singing, dancing, making things, sharing stories and jokes and sharing good food. We have a Meeting for Worship and short quiet times each day. Everyone helps to set the tables, wash up and clear away after meals.  Sleeping is in small rooms of 2-6 children.

If have any questions about any potential activities or concerns about your child’s participation in them please contact Bronwen Alty on 01924 372534 or 07843 485645 or bronwenalty@gmail.com, or make a note on the form.

Who’s running the holidays?    The gatherings are planned by the Quakers in Yorkshire Junior Holidays Committee. They are normally staffed by up to six adult volunteers and older teenage volunteers.

What about the costs?    The cost of the weekend is £50 for the first child and £45 for siblings. However we would be disappointed indeed if any young people felt that they could not join us for financial reasons – let us know on the form if you need financial help or email the Yorkshire Youth Development Worker  Jonathonb@quaker.org.uk

Holiday theme: Each holiday has its own theme around which we structure some of the activities and quiet time. We will let participants know the theme for the weekend when we send out the final holiday details a couple of weeks before the holiday.

How do I book? As we have limited places available please book early. Please complete the online form below and make a payment of £50 for your (single) child.

If you are booking more than one child from your household we offer discounted places of £45, per additional child.

Eg. A parent/guardian booking and natal child and a step child living in the same house attracts a discount for the second child, cousins across residences, for example, do not.

Children with specific needs: we wish to welcome all children to our holidays.  It is essential that we know well in advance what children’s needs are so that we can plan ahead and make sure that each child has a safe and happy time.  Please bear in mind that our volunteers do not necessarily have specialist training, though they are usually parents or people with experience of working with children at Quaker events.  Please put any information on the application form that will help your child.  If you child has additional support at school it would be useful if you could tell us what that is so we can plan accordingly. COVID contingency plans

We do not know what the national situation will be by September regarding the COVID infection rates, however as things stand there are no restrictions in place which would affect the holiday.

If you have any questions or concerns about these COVID contingency plans, please get in touch.

IMPORTANT: Contacting you during Junior Holiday – we need to ensure that everyone has a safe and happy time.  It is therefore possible that we might need a child to be collected early if they become unwell or if their behaviour affects the safety or wellbeing of the rest of the group. By applying for a place at Junior Holiday, parents / guardians must agree to remain contactable and to make any necessary arrangements to collect a child early if requested by Junior Holiday staff.

Safeguarding: We follow the safeguarding policies set out by Quakers in Yorkshire. The safeguarding contact for Junior Holidays is Clare Wigzell clarewigzell@virginmedia.com, and the safeguarding co-ordinator for Quakers in Yorkshire under-19s are Ruth McTigue, smctighe@cix.co.uk   and Liz Schweiger liz.schweiger@phonecoop.coop. Information about safeguarding contacts for each specific holiday will be sent out with the final mailing.
