Welcome to Quakers in Yorkshire Junior Holidays 2023 at Nell Bank!

Our holidays are short adventure breaks for young people who are aged between 7 and 13 (inclusive, at the date of the event) from the Quakers in Yorkshire area.  They are a chance for young people to meet together, get to know each other and spend time away from their family in a Quaker group.

Applications from outside of Yorkshire are considered, if the young person in question has strong links to the area or other attending participants.

Where? Nell Bank, Denton Road, Ilkley, LS29 ODE

When? Friday 9th (1730) to  Sunday 11th June (1300) 2023

Who? Children aged 7-13

What does it cost? £90 (£80 for the second young person of your household) for the weekend

What happens on the holiday?

This year our theme will be “looking after one another”.

There will be a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including walks, games, team challenges, talent shows and arts and crafts. Nell bank has a large adventure playground, sports fields and woods which can be used in unprogrammed time.

If have any questions about any potential activities or concerns about your child’s participation in them please contact Anne Peart on 07979415731 or juniorholidays@quakersinyorkshire.org.uk or make a note on the form in the “anything else” section.

Who’s running the holidays?    The gatherings are planned by the Junior Holidays planning group, who are part of, report to and are underwritten by Quakers in Yorkshire. Nell bank is normally staffed by up to 7 adult volunteers, the Youth Development worker for Yorkshire and older teenage volunteers. Anne Peart is the designated parent liaison volunteer.

What about the costs?    The cost of the weekend is £90 for the first child and £80 for other children of your household. However we would be disappointed indeed if any parent felt they couldn’t send their young people for financial reasons – let us know on the form if you need financial help or email the Yorkshire Youth Development Worker Jonathonb@quaker.org.uk. Discretion is and confidentially is assured.

Holiday theme: Looking after one another. We hope that attending young people will bring something they look after to the holiday to talk about. Please note this item should not be alive or so precious that it might not withstand the rigors of Junior Holiday!

How do I book? As we have limited places available please book early. Please complete the online form below and make a payment of £90 for your (single) child.

If you are booking more than one child from your household we offer discounted places of £80, per additional child.

Eg. A parent/guardian booking and natal child and a step child living in the same house attracts a discount for the second child, cousins across residences, for example, do not.

Children with specific needs: we wish to welcome all children to our holidays.  It is essential that we know well in advance what children’s needs are so that we can plan ahead and make sure that each child has a safe and happy time.  Please bear in mind that our volunteers do not necessarily have specialist training, though they are usually parents or people with experience of working with children at Quaker events.  Please put any information on the application form that will help your child.  If you child has additional support at school it would be useful if you could tell us what that is so we can plan accordingly. Please feel free to telephone Anne Peart (07979415731) or email to talk about things before you book.

IMPORTANT: Contacting you during Junior Holiday – we need to ensure that everyone has a safe and happy time.  It is therefore possible that we might need a child to be collected early if they become unwell or if their behavior affects the safety or wellbeing of the rest of the group. By applying for a place at Junior Holiday, parents / guardians must agree to remain contactable and to make any necessary arrangements to collect a child early if requested by Junior Holiday staff.
