Working at the heart of Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) is exciting, challenging and inspiring. It can lead to new experiences and friendships. Our community and its work benefit from Friends offering their time and their gifts on a voluntary basis. We call this Quaker Service.

This form will help nominating committees match Friends to roles within BYM.

Your information

We will keep your information securely. We will also prompt you annually to update your details. you can change your details at any time by contacting our Nominations Team. Completing this form does not guarantee that you will be asked to serve. You are not obliged to agree to an opportunity if you do not feel it is right for you.

What happens next?

When we receive your form we will upload it to our database. Within a month we will send you an email to let you know that we have received your form. When nominations committees search for names they look through these forms. They might search by interest or by other keywords.

If you sign up to the Quaker Life Network you will receive regular emails about informal service opportunities.

6. Please give details of two Friends who have agreed to support your offer of service.
Friends who provide a reference are known as Supporting Friends. They must be in membership but do not need to know a lot about central service.

If a nominating committee feels that you could be the right person for a role it will contact your Supporting Friends. It will explain the role to them and discuss your suitability for it. We will usually contact your Supporting Friends before your name is put forwards for nomination. When we approach them for a reference we will also send them a description of the role we are considering you for.

Please identify two members who know you well. Pick Friends who know what you do now, rather than just what you did in the past. Please refer Supporting Friends to www.quaker.org.uk/givetime for further guidance. To change your Supporting Friends contact the Committee Services Team.

7. Personal and contact details

Please provide all contact details, including an email address and phone number where possible. It also helps to have an idea of your age. To ensure BYM is as inclusive as possible we try to appoint Friends of ages and genders, and from all regions.

While some appointments need you to be in membership, many are open to attenders. If you are an attender please give the name of your local meeting (LM) or Quaker worshiping community. Members should include their local meeting and the area meeting (AM) where membership is held.
