Yearly Meeting is about bringing Quakers together to see each other’s faces, to listen to the promptings of love and truth and to share that with the wider world.

This year we will continue to meet online as well as at Friends House. This is a really valuable opportunity to strengthen our connections. We know all too well that both meeting at Friends House or attending a blended event has its own challenges.

We ask for your help to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere that nurtures all of us as we try to live in the Kingdom of God here and now.

Please consider offering your help with the Pastoral Care team working with members of the Pastoral Care Group providing practical help or a listening ear.

All pastoral support volunteers need to be attending Yearly Meeting at Friends House.

This volunteer role is subject to satisfactory safer recruitment checks including criminal record checks. This should from the nation in which you live. In England and Wales this is the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), and Scotland it is the Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme (PVG). The following questions enable us to support this process.

Types of criminal record check

There are different types of check, each accessing different levels of protected personal data.

Basic: This accesses the least sensitive data.

Standard: Details spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings that are held on the Police National Computer.

Enhanced: This lists all the above and includes extra information held about you on local police records.

Enhanced with barred list information: Includes all the above and also checks your eligibility to work with a particular group.

We are requesting a Basic check for this role. This accesses the least sensitive data. If you have a check at a higher level you can either apply for a new Basic criminal record check. Or you can choose to share the certificate with us (and if relevant access the update service). If you choose to share your current criminal record check please be mindful that this potentially gives us access to any sensitive data included on the criminal record certificate.

Identity verification for your criminal record check

As part of the process, we will need to verify your identity. There are two ways this can be done. 1. Digital: this is the easiest way, but you will need: a valid chip-enabled British passport; a smartphone to access the DDC ID app; a computer, tablet or smart phone to access the DDC online platform (this may be the same device you use to access the app). 2. Manual: For this you will need to meet with your local Quaker verifier and show them original documents from a list we will provide. This is more time consuming, and where you have the appropriate documents for online (digital) verification process, we strongly recommend you choose that option.
