Yearly Meeting is about bringing Quakers together to see each other’s faces, to listen to the promptings of love and truth and to share that with the wider world.
This year we will be meeting online as well as at Friends House. This is a really valuable opportunity to strengthen our connections. We know all too well that both meeting at Friends House again or attending a blended event has its own challenges.
We ask for your help to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere that nurtures all of us as we try to live in the Kingdom of God here and now.

Please consider offering your help with these volunteer roles:
- Become a doorkeeper and microphone steward in the Large Meeting House to welcome and assist Friends during the YM sessions and help maintaining Meeting for Worship at the clerk’s leading during the sessions;

Be part of the team in the Community Hub
Are you someone who is good at noticing people who look a bit lost, confused or left out? Then the community hub is the perfect opportunity to put your skills into action. The hub is a space for Friends attending YM for the first time, or wanting to meet with others and chat. You, would need to be attending Yearly Meeting in person to part of this team.

Microphone steward and Doorkeeper
These roles are excellent for Friends who want to give service, but do not wish to miss Yearly Meeting in session. You will contribute to the smooth running of the event, working in the background to ensure that the clerks are supported.

Microphone stewards: In open worship, you will wait for the Elders to call Friends who rise to minister. During session, you will listen for the clerk to call you to pass the microphone to a specified Friend. You will be required to be unobtrusive whilst the speaker has the microphone.

Doorkeepers: you will facilitate the entry of people into the Large Meeting House, welcome them and hold back latecomers until suitable breaks in the proceedings. You will need to be in position 20 minutes before the sessions start.
Reviewing Children & Young People's programmes
Do you enjoy hearing about people’s experiences? Are you good at highlighting what’s gone well and identifying areas for development? Children & Young people are an integral part of Yearly Meeting, and each year we offer an opportunity for someone independent to summarise the experience of participants and team members. You would play a part in ensuring that these events continue to make a difference to the lives of young Quakers. You would be sent copies of the feedback forms which you will review against the aims of the event. The report is then sent to the committee that oversees the programme. Previous reviewers have commented that reading about the experiences of participants is a rewarding opportunity. You would need to be available to complete this task at some point between 1 to 14 August 2024.

Community Hub Safer Recruitment Questions
You have indicated that you would like to offer service as a part of the team in the community. As this role includes working with people who are classed as vulnerable we need some more information from you. The following questions will enable us to follow our safer recruitment policy.

This volunteer role is subject to satisfactory safer recruitment checks including 2 references.
Referees
Please provide the details of two people (not related to you) to whom reference can be made, both should know you well and at least one should have known you for two years or more. If you have applied for pastoral care, at least one of these referees should be able to speak to this. One should be Quaker and one should know you from another area of life. We will only contact these referees if the references we have for you are more than 3 years old.
Please make sure that your referees are happy for their contact details to be stored until the end of the gathering and used by us for this purpose.
